Carnival of Space #491 Here @ Links Through Space

Carnival of Space #491
Welcome to Links Through Space. Astronomy for Everyone.
This is the blog of our Astronomy Club Toutatis, Kustavi, Finland.
We write/post news about space related topics and
we showcase our astrophotos and timelapses.

So here we have it, Ladies and Gentlemen!
The Carnival of Space #491 @ Links Through Space.

A combined GMRT radio (red), Chandra X-ray (blue), and Subaru optical image of the colliding galaxy cluster pair Abell 3411-3412. In the hot dilute cluster gas (blue), high-energy electrons accelerated by an AGN (see inset) are accelerated again at a giant shock, producing bright radio emission. The radio emission farther below is probably produced by a similar process because several other AGN are located nearby.

Next stop: The Chandra Blog (http://chandra.si.edu/). NASA's flagship mission for X-Ray astronomy.

1. X-rays From the Young Monsters: Studying Supermassive Black Holes in the Early Universe. Feast yourself on this one HERE.

2. The Discovery of Particle Re-acceleration in a Galaxy Cluster Collision. Read more on this post HERE.

Last place to stop by before leaving he Carnival of Space #491 is here at LINKS THROUGH SPACE with a visit to a prehistoric Solar calendar.

1. Ales Stenar Megalithic Site in Southern Sweden, Stonehenge Little Sister. Had to See it With My Own Eyes. Have a look at the pictures and read the post HERE.

So here you have it!
All the thrills and excitements of the Astronomy/Space community this week.
The Carnival of Space #491

If you run a space/astronomy related blog and would like to get more awareness, participate in the Carnival of Space. Every week a different webmaster or blogger hosts the Carnival, showcasing articles written on the topic of space. It's a great way to get to know the community and to help your writing reach a wider audience. Comet Catalina (C/2013 US10). Revisit of past year astrophotography in Moroccan Sahara desert.

Comet Catalina (C/2013 US10)

Comet Catalina on the 13.01.2016 passing in the field of view of  the Pinwheel Galaxy in Ursa Major.
27 shots stacked together and saved as an GIF animation on Image J.
C/2013 US10 (Catalina) is an Oort cloud comet discovered on 31 October 2013 by the Catalina Sky Survey.

It crossed the celestial equator on 17 December 2015 becoming a northern hemisphere object.
On 17 January 2016 the comet passed 0.72 AU (108,000,000 km; 67,000,000 mi) from Earth and was around magnitude 6 while located in the constellation of Ursa Major.
Hence the comet was near the Pinwheel galaxy field of view.

This GIF animation and pictures were taken on the 17 of January 2016 from the location of the Sahara Sky Observatory in Southern Morocco (http://www.saharasky.com/saharasky/).

Here is a still picture of the animation.
